HOW TO PLAY BASKETBALL DEFENSE..???

Nobody knows why; but, efforts to strengthen defensive skills seem to go into hibernation every game. Players think it a necessary evil ... you pass through ...on your way to a score. I hope you don't feel this way.

Basketball Defense
There are about six or seven major points that you should be aware of when playing ball defense. These major points concern your position in the private area of a player with the ball. This is the area in which a defender must be in to worry the player with the ball.
The defender must make dribbles, passes, or shots difficult. This area is often referred to as "his bubble." These major points are: body weight, position of the hands, faking, forcing, slapping (or stealing), and a self commitment.
The last is more important. If you aren't committed to stopping your man, none of the other points matter. Begin, with a sincere desire to be known as a good defensive player. If you have this, then the six points that follow, will help.

COLLECTING STAMPS ( PHILATELY )

Stamp collecting is the collecting of postage stamps and related objects, such as covers (envelopes or packages with stamps on them). It is one of the world's most popular hobbies, with estimates of the number of collectors ranging up to 200 million in the world.
Collecting is not the same as philately, which is the study of stamps. A philatelist often does, but need not, collect the objects of study, nor is it necessary to closely study what one collects. Many casual collectors enjoy accumulating stamps without worrying about the tiny details, but the creation of a large or comprehensive collection generally requires some philatelic knowledge.
Stamp collectors are an important source of revenue for some small countries who create limited runs of elaborate stamps designed mainly to be bought by stamp collectors. The stamps produced by these countries far exceed the postal needs of the countries.
Some collectors, observing the generally rising prices of rare stamps, have taken to philatelic investment. Rare stamps are among the most portable of tangible investments, and are easy to store.

I am also a stamp collector and trying my level best to be a philatelist. I will post some of my collections in future.

ROLE OF COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY IN CIVIL ENGINEERING EDUCATION

The development of powerful and affordable microcomputers and computer software will have an impact in the delivery of instruction in higher education. This is especially true for civil engineering education where the computer has started to be appreciated as a useful tool in civil engineering analysis and design.

1. INTRODUCTION

The rapid development of computer technologies which include powerful and affordable microcomputers and reliable and user-friendly software has started to change the delivery of instruction in higher education. Computers have greatly increased the ability of students to perform calculations and to process large amount of data. As a result, the type and nature of problems and mathematical techniques taught in school may have to be changed or modified so that the usefulness of the computer can be maximized in the teaching-learning process. This is especially true for civil engineering education where the computer has started to be recognized as a useful and important tool in civil engineering analysis and design.

ETABS_For Modelling, Analyzing and Designing the Structures

For nearly 30 years, ETABS has been recognized as the industry standard for Building Analysis and Design Software. Today, continuing in the same tradition, ETABS has evolved into a completely integrated building analysis and design environment. The system built around a physical object based graphical user interface, powered by targeted new special purpose algorithms for analysis and design, with interfaces for drafting and manufacturing, is redefining standards of integration, productivity and technical innovation.
The integrated model can include moment resisting frames, braced frames, staggered truss systems, frames with reduced beam sections or side plates, rigid and flexible floors, sloped roofs, ramps and parking structures, mezzanine floors, multiple tower buildings and stepped diaphragm systems with complex concrete, composite or steel joist floor framing systems. solutions to complex problems such as panel zone deformations, diaphragm shear stresses, and construction sequence loading are now at your fingertips.
ETABS is the solution, whether you are designing a simple 2D frame or performing a dynamic analysis of a complex high-rise that utilizes non-linear dampers for inter-story drift control.

MOST MISUNDERSTOOD BASKETBALL RULES

I have listed here the most misunderstood Basketball rules(Fouls) used in SriLankan Basketball matches and practices. As a Basketball player I am glad to share this with you all. The Reference is given below.

1. Charging Foul:
An offensive foul consisting of illegal personal contact by pushing or moving into an opponent’s torso. This usually happens when an offensive player drives to the basket and “runs over” a defensive player. If a basket is made on a “charging” call, the basket will not count. The defensive player does not receive any free throws on player control (the person charging has the ball) fouls.

RETROFITTING OF EXISTING STRUCTURES

The simple definition of the word “Retrofitting” is modifying existing structures with additional or new components or members.
The buildings were constructed with local available materials such as stone, brick, wood and other local materials with no guidance of an Engineer or Architect will start to fail after some years. Therefore retrofitting (strengthening) is very necessary nowadays for these types of buildings.
When doing a retrofitting project we have to consider many issues. Selecting a proper retrofitting method for the structure is a very important thing when doing retrofitting. The method has to satisfy the structural strength of the structure and it must be cost effective as well. Some buildings may be historical buildings, and it is important to do the retrofitting with additional care and not affecting the old structure.
There are many techniques to retrofit the structure. Selecting the proper method for a particular building will finish most of the retrofitting part of the project.
Here I have uploaded the report about the Project which we have done as a research project in our final year.
